WHO responds to health needs in Al-Hudaydah amid escalating conflict

Sana'a, 28 June 2018 — As the crisis in Al-Hudaydah governorate intensifies, the number of people in need of humanitarian aid continues to increase. Prior to the escalation in conflict, health conditions in the governorate were some of the worst in the country.  Today, a number of districts in Al-Hudaydah are reporting the highest number of cases of suspected cholera, as well as the highest severe acute and chronic malnutrition rates in the country.

“WHO is currently supporting two public hospitals in Al-Hudaydah city (Al Thawra and Al Olifi), and two district hospitals on the outskirts of the city (Bait Al Faqiah and Zabib), making sure they have the capacity to receive and treat trauma patients. Trauma supplies were sent weeks ago. We are now continuing the support through the provision of ambulances and the rapid deployment of mobile teams to reach people who cannot travel to medical facilities, and we are working to establish trauma stabilization points in critical areas,” said Dr Nevio Zagaria, WHO Representative in Yemen.

WHO is also supporting 7 therapeutic feeding centers in the governorate to treat children suffering from severe acute malnutrition with medical complications. Additional medicines and supplies for 200 000 medical consultations, including cholera medicines, have been pre-positioned to be delivered as needed, and surrounding governorates have been placed on high alert and equipped with supplies and medicines for the treatment of cholera, specifically for thousands of displaced people coming out of Al-Hudaydah.

“The situation in Al-Hudaydah city grows more dangerous every day. And as the fate of this country is being discussed on the international stage, the reality on the ground is much darker. As the conflict escalates, so must the health response. Basic health services must be guaranteed for the most vulnerable, such as mothers and children, and patients suffering from chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension.”

“Yemen’s health system is extremely fragile, so any additional incident has the potential to overwhelm existing capacities. Population movement out of Al-Hudaydah is creating pressure on operating health facilities and water and sanitation networks in host communities. Local water supplies have been damaged by the conflict, increasing and the risk of cholera and waterborne diseases as people turn to potentially unsafe sources of water,” added Dr Zagaria.

Even before the crisis began, WHO had delivered trauma supplies sufficient for 500 major and minor surgeries to 4 hospitals in Al-Hudaydah; deployed 9 surgical teams; trained 165 health workers on mass casualty management and mental health care; and provided more than 100 000 litres of fuel to 7 hospitals and 450 000 litres of water to three hospitals.

WHO health supplies reach southern Syria as needs grow amid increased fighting

http://www.emro.who.int/syr/syria-news/who-health-supplies-reach-southern-syria-as-needs-grow-amid-increased-fighting.html

28 June 2018, Amman, Jordan -- Opposition-controlled areas in southern Syria are witnessing a dramatic increase in violence that has led to high levels of insecurity and the displacement of tens of thousands of people. Over 80% of the estimated 525 000 people living in these areas are expected to need humanitarian assistance as a result of the fighting. This includes up to 50 000 people who have displaced over the past two weeks.

On 27 June, WHO’s office in Damascus dispatched over 27 tons of medical supplies to respond to urgent humanitarian health needs in southern Syria. Items include operating tables, intravenous fluids, antibiotics and trauma supplies, burn medications and emergency health kits. The supplies are sufficient to provide 135 000 treatments. Further supplies have been prepositioned to respond to the rapidly evolving situation.

Healthcare facilities in southern Syria can also draw on regular cross-border stocks delivered by WHO and health partners in Amman. Current stocks are enough to treat up to 300 000 people for three months. WHO and its partners in Amman plan to pre-position another 51 tons of emergency supplies in warehouses throughout the area, ready for dispatch to health care facilities in southern Syria as and when needed.

“These shipments are timely and essential to help healthcare facilities in Dar’a governorate cope with the greatly increased demand for healthcare services, reaching all people in need no matter where they are located,” said Dr. Michel Thieren, Regional Emergencies Director. “WHO remains committed to working with partners to provide emergency health care in the areas of greatest need.”

These are the first in a series of shipments that WHO plans to deploy to southern Syria, where health needs are acute and growing. Recent data from WHO’s Health Resources Availability Mapping System (HeRAMS) show that 40% of public healthcare centers in Dar’a and Quneitra governorates are closed and only one hospital remains open. WHO is supporting the deployment of three mobile clinics that are providing health care services for people displaced by the fighting, and is working to deploy another four in the coming days.

“As the situation in Southern Syria evolves, humanitarian convoys bearing essential supplies must be allowed to proceed across conflict lines, and the government and all parties to the conflict must allow critically ill and wounded civilians to be immediately evacuated for life-saving treatment”, added Dr. Thieren.

1 in 10 medical products in developing countries is substandard or falsified. WHO urges governments to take action

An estimated 1 in 10 medical products circulating in low- and middle-income countries is either substandard or falsified, according to new research from the World Health Organization (WHO).

This means that people are taking medicines that fail to treat or prevent disease. Not only is this a waste of money for individuals and health systems that purchase these products, but substandard or falsified medical products can cause serious illness or even death.

“Substandard and falsified medicines particularly affect the most vulnerable communities,” says Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “Imagine a mother who gives up food or other basic needs to pay for her child’s treatment, unaware that the medicines are substandard or falsified, and then that treatment causes her child to die.  This is unacceptable.  Countries have agreed on measures at the global level – it is time to translate them into tangible action.”

Radiating Mobile Towers of Delhi !

Sometime ago we did a random check of the mobile towers in our area with two 'NARDA' machines for a day, along with two teams, to work on that. We started moving our car randomly, to find the towers with maximum carriers and the two teams followed us. We checked various towers but the outcome was nil, as all the towers ranked within the range, may be due to the fixing of outcome. The video recording of that event is being shared below :

In continuation of our efforts, a day ago, we invited a top official team, for a random check at few locations. This time these were the officials from a top rated Govt department, doing the random checking of mobile towers in our area. Though they were not allowed to share with us their findings, we could easily understand the status of the Tower checked in front of us.

Though i can not share the outcome figures on this public platform, but yes, it was high, the tower was emitting radiation. The peak was much above the prescribed limit. We have requested the team to visit us again with more sophisticated equipment for random checking at various locations. Hopefully, they will revert to us in a day or two. We will share the findings with you very soon.

With best regards,

PLUSS : Online purchase of medicines at a Mega Discount !

Last evening while playing with my Lebra, i got a scratch. I checked My Dog Card and found that the next date of her injection was 29th September. On consulting our Family Doctor, i was told to go for Rabipur to avoid any risk. I agreed and purchased the injection at Rs 340 and got it injected.

As we have to go for three injections, i thought of checking the PLUSS TEAM that was present in one of our events. The company sent me the second injection duly packed on an Ice pack from Green park with a Bill of 349 MRP including Tax.

Image result for plussapp

I was given a Discount of 30% over that price & the actual amount that i paid to the PLUSS Team was Rs 244. Surprisingly, there was a difference of appx. Rs 100 in just one injection. In my opinion our RWAs must spread awareness on the huge margins being earned by Local chemists & in case of any requirement, they too can try it online with PLUSS.

Kellogg’s Chocos ke saath ‘Khuljaye Bachpan’ !

‘Instructive parents’…..? At the age of Internet, Android, WhatsApp, Twitter …. ? Do you think ….. that’s possible any more ? No Way.  No More.  What they expect from us is, that, we must be the Buddy parents, Interactive parents, Friendly parents ….& that's all.

Gone are the day’s when we were ordered by our parents or grandparents, to do something or to not to do something. Even we used to felt very bad when we were forced to do something….. that was beyond our expectations. Even we felt it bad when we had to move as a puppet, on the orders of our elders. We never liked it at our age, and so, how can we repeat the same process with our kids.

Now’s the time when we must be the Buddy parents with whom, the child can mix up as a friend, could discuss everything, may be good or bad, and in that friendly chat, being the interactive parents, we can make up their mind towards the better, towards the life, towards the target to be achieved, but ……..in a friendly manner.

We must empower, boost their energy levels, to make them compatible with the prevailing system where it’s difficult to get a seat in a good college even after getting 95% marks. We want them to be fearless in this dirty society where even kids are not safe out of the home. And we can never do it by giving instructions. We can teach them, in a much better way, by being the interactive Mom & Dad. We must concentrate on the principles of “khuljae Bachpan” & “Khiljae Bachpan”.

We must have the ‘bonding moments’ with our kids so that, they could get the feeling of our love and affection towards them, that could make them feel more secure and stronger. We must start boosting our kids since the early childhood days and you will definitely get the desired ‘Khushi ke pal’.

I know that while using my Android, whenever, I get some problem, I just pass it on to my daughters and the problem is sorted out in minutes. I can say I am absolutely dependent upon them, at least for maintaining my Android mobile and that’s truly the ‘Khushi ke pal’ for me.

Similarly, when we are out on the vacation, while I capture pictures using my Nikon, she uses her selfie stick to capture the entire world on her mobile. The minute she asks me to fit in the small frame of her mobile, it gives me the desired ‘Khushi ke pal’.

I remember the day when my mom was serious in hospital & in the tension, I could not go to the ATM, she brought her Piggy Bank to me and offered me to take as much as I wanted. That indeed was, one of the best  ‘Khushi ke pal’ for me.

Once, while I was very tired, she (my daughter) opened the packet of Kellogg’s Chocos and started feeding me like a small baby while my wife was making a cup of tea for me. That was, also, one of the best ‘Khushi ke pal’ for me.

There are many such instances that bring a smile on my face and even boost my energy level by consuming Kellogg’s Chocos. Even you can feel the desired ‘Khushi ke pal’, by just opening a packet of Kellogg’s Chocos. You can know more about it from the face Book link  :  https://www.facebook.com/mychocos.

Dabur Honey to stay fit & healthy, even in summers

Now a day’s street food has become the lifeline of Delhiite’s, and that’s what we call crazy eating as Delhiite's are really crazy for a variety of eatables available in every locality. It may be Pizza or Pasta, Idly, Dosa or Utpam, Chole Bhature or Momo’s, a stuffed Aloo Paratha with curd and butter or Samosa and Kachori. It may be Ice cream, Gulab Jamun, Ras Gulla, Ras Malai, Kulfi, Halwa or a big glass of Juice from the juice corners available in every part.

The outcome is the fattest, increase in body weight, High blood pressure or Sugar. Therefore, it becomes necessary to make a regular visit to the area Gym to maintain the body weight and those willing for immediate results, often go for the crash diets for weight reduction which may be very harmful as these crash diets make an adverse impact on the body.

Instead of opting for the crash diets, we must go for the balanced and a healthy diet to stay fit and to be far away from being obese. The benefits are that we will have no urgency to visit a doctor regularly. We will have no urgency to continue with regular medicines. We will have more energy to do the positive thinking and more work to achieve targets of our life.

A simple example of the balanced and a healthy diet is   Honey with natural sugar.  It contains all the essential nutrients such as carbohydrates, minerals, amino acids, proteins as well vitamins. It provides energy without building heat and therefore it’s very much ideal even for summers. It has lesser calories when compare to sugar. It helps in digestion also. It has the moisturizing and nourishing properties and therefore very useful for beautiful skin. Moreover, it’s said by our elders that we can have our complete weight management by having a spoon of honey with warm water in the morning, regularly. It’s very useful even in the cough & cold.

It can very easily be added to our daily diet. We can replace sugar with honey to stay healthy and fit. We can use it in milk, tea or coffee. We can add it in juices instead of sugar. We can have it with bread. We can use it in every product where we are so far using sugar. As it’s much sweeter than sugar, we can reduce its quantity also when compared to sugar. As a result, we can save ourselves, not only from the bad impact of sugar, but at the same time, can remain fit and healthy with this natural sugar.

You can have detailed information about the branded Dabur honey from the Honey Diet  Link that reflects their website, i.e. http://www.daburhoney.com/. It’s safe for human consumption as it has been filtered & processed to remove the impurities such as pollen, wax and dust.

Hydrojal Plus– the Alkaline way to improve immune system & body resistance !

It’s a well known fact that 70% of our body constitutes water & therefore we must drink substantial quantities of water, regularly, to stay fit & healthy. But have you ever tested the quality of water that you get from Taps in your home  ? The reality is, that most of us get dirty water from the taps which contains invisible bacteria, parasites, chlorine, fluoride and dioxins that often lead us to various hospitals for immediate medical attention.

As a result, water purifier has become a part of our lifestyle, but we don’t understand that even the RO water contains acidic pH that makes our body more acidic. This acidic water causes acidity, fatigue, constipation, headaches, cancer, arthritis, immune dysfunction, hangovers as well the premature aging. The truth is that the purified water is an active absorber  & the minute it comes in contact with the air, it absorbs carbon dioxide that makes the water acidic.  Even the cooking of food in such water, lowers its nutrient value.

Many of us consume cold drinks as an alternative of water, without even understanding that these beverages are also made from the purified water only. Those with regular intakes of soft drinks spill huge amount of calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals into the urine that may lead to osteoporosis, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure etc. Isn’t it shocking that in order to replace the water stolen by soft drinks, we must drink at least 12 glasses of water for every glass of soft drink consumed.

The truth is that the ideal water for human consumption should be alkaline, which has the presence of minerals such as calcium & magnesium. Water filtered through a solid charcoal filter is slightly alkaline and Ozonation of this charcoal filtered water is ideal for regular human consumption. Alkaline ion water attracts the acidic ions & carries them out of the body.

It must be noted that the healthy cells live in an alkaline environment & all kinds of unhealthy cells live in an acid accumulated waste environment. Alkaline water provides the stomach mucosa to excrete the right amount of hydrochloric acid for food digestion. We must note that 1 glass of Alkalized water is equal to 3 glasses of ordinary or bottled water in its hydration capability. Therefore, if we want to be on the safer side & want to be fit & healthy, we must opt for theAlkaline & Anti – oxidant rich water, that can keep us more healthier & fit as its absolutely non acidic in nature.

Hydro - Jal Plus is India’s most advanced, compact, stylish & affordable water ionizer. It is the most efficient and powerful mechanism that converts the regular water into the absolute healthiest ionized alkaline water that is perfectly fit for drinking. You can get a Free Demo of the Hydro jal at your home and can get a free test of your normal drinking water to prove its acidity.

We must remember that the regular intake of Ionized Alkaline water improves the immune system and body resistance to diseases as no disease can live in an Alkaline body. Therefore, if you want to transform your health with 3 – 4 litres of Alkaline & Anti oxidant rich water every day, just call Hydro Jal Plus, for a Live Demo, NOW !
